Screw conveyors

Screw conveyors are usually used for transport of dry and wet materials, e.g. wood chips, smaller fractions of limestone, granulate, biomass and powder-like material. Our screw conveyors are usually included as units in a larger plant and we always adapt them according to your needs.

Screw conveyors have a simple and well-proven design, which makes them both reliable and durable. However, use of screw conveyors consumes more energy and needs more maintenance in comparison with belt conveyors, though their design can be an advantage in transporting, for example, materials that produce dust.

Screw conveyors are less sensitive than belt conveyors when it comes to gradient, it is generally possible to incline them more than a belt conveyor. From a capacity point of view, this way of moving material is not as effective as a belt.

Frequently Asked Questions about Screw Conveyors

What is a screw conveyor?
A screw conveyor is used to transport dry or wet materials such as wood chips, limestone fractions, granulates, biomass, and powders.
What materials can be handled with a screw conveyor?
Screw conveyors can handle materials like wood chips, biomass, powders, granulates, moist materials, and smaller limestone fractions.
How does a screw conveyor work?
A rotating screw or spiral moves the material forward through a trough or pipe housing.
What are the advantages of screw conveyors?
They are robust, reliable, capable of operating at steep inclines, and ideal for handling dusty materials.
What are the disadvantages of screw conveyors?
They generally require more energy and maintenance compared to belt conveyors and have lower overall capacity.
Can screw conveyors be customized?
Yes, our screw conveyors are always customized according to the customer’s requirements and can be integrated into larger systems.
What accessories are available?
Accessories include internal wear linings, wear-resistant spirals (e.g. Hardox), chutes, and pneumatic or mechanical slide gates.
Are screw conveyors suitable for dusty materials?
Yes, their enclosed design makes them highly suitable for handling fine or dusty materials.
What inclination can a screw conveyor handle?
Screw conveyors can generally operate at steeper angles than belt conveyors and can be installed in inclined configurations.
What maintenance is required for screw conveyors?
Regular inspection of wear parts, lubrication, and monitoring of the drive and gearbox are recommended.
